As parents we always want to do right by our kids, and when it comes to sports especially hockey, our minds get hypnotized by the coach or skill instructor. In some cases words of some type of flattery regarding ” LITTLE JOHNNY or LITTLE JANE” get mistaken and that can cost parents a lot of $$. When my kids were growing up in minor hockey there was very few “skill instructors” and coaches never got paid.
In todays Minor Hockey world not only are the Coaches getting paid some big $$, but some are running mid week skill or skating session. Not aware of what is actually happening parents aren’t sure what to do. If I don’t sign up will it effect my kids ice time? This is the question that is in the head of parents. My answer to this is when choosing a team for your kids to play, find out the whole story directly from the coaches mouth, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
The answers will tell you what kind of coach you are dealing with. Is it someone who wants to develope your kids throughout the season with team practices or do you have someone with their hand out and couldn’t care a less about the well being of the kids. Believe me , this happens a lot more than people think!!
So the lesson to be learned is ask a lot of questions and make sure you are comfortable with the coach doing what he is being paid to do within the team budget, not the coach who wants to line his pockets with $$ using the threat of ice time!!

As stated in earlier posts I am going to be acting as someone who parents can email questions to answers they might be having a hard time with. Of course, there is going to be a charge for my answers, but it will be very reasonable. I am not looking to retire. Just provide hard truthful answers to questions parents may be embarrassed to ask.
