TRYOUTS:Tread Lightly!!

It’s the time of the year again where playoffs are almost done and CHAMPIONS of each age group are crowned. This is the time of year where most parents lose their minds scrambling to find out the right team to take their child to try out for the team that will play next season.

Please make sure you go into tryouts with an open mind and don’t believe all the talk from coaches that may be trying to recruit your child to their team. Each Organization has to have published tryouts for each division and for all age groups they represent. There will be A,AA, AAA tryouts that all usually run concurrently , so please go wisely and don’t follow anybody into the rabbit hole.

As a parent you have the right to pay and attend all the tryouts you wish to go to. After each tryout you may get approached by the coach or the manager saying “great news” he made it passed the 1st session. This is a good time to decide if you want to spend more $$ going to other teams tryouts or stay at that one. The decision you make here will be important as you are mapping a route.

Couple of very important things you need to ask the coach or manager regarding their opinion of your son/daughter so you can make a qualified decision.

  1. How can you improve my child rom Sept to April.
  2. Is there going to be many returning players, and without any hesitation how many forwards, defensemen and goalies. Real good coaches have the ability to read parents so is their going to be a team rule re when parents cans call to ask questions re the developement of their child
  3. Is this a “win at all cost team”?

To the parents who are going into U10. This is going to be a huge eye opener as most of those kids that you will see have either played in the KLEVR League or now with Open Borders some kids may be from out of down. Do not get discouraged if your kids don’t get selected for those teams. Find a lower division team where they can be the “big fish in the little pond” and has a coach that isn’t all about winning, but can share teaching moments for the kids.

Wish everyone the Best!!

Again, if someone is looking to get some answers to questions they may have discreetly, look me up in previous posts and I will be happy to answer your questions!!

Good Luck!!
